rainbow:  the rainbow is the sign of the covenant between God and the earth:  Genesis 9:13-16 (7198 like an iris; New Testament 2463 an iris Covenant)

V7   Instead of "beasts" should have been translated "living creatures".  "Beast" is a word for the anti-christ.
According to Hebrew tradition, the faces of the creatures appeared on the standards (flags) of the leader tribes as they camped around the sanctuary during the Exodus. The lion was for the tribe of Judah, the calf for the tribe of Ephraim, the man for the tribe of Reuben and the eagle for the tribe of Dan.    (website:  Revelation of Jesus)

V8    Description and function.   Their whole function is to praise the lord day and night––"they rest not"
V9    And when those living creatures give glory, and honor, and thanks
to Him that sat on the throne, Who lives for ever and ever

V10    The four and twenty elders fall dow before Him that sat on the throne and worship Him that lives for ever and ever, and cast their crown before the throne
