Revelation: Chapter 18

Chapter 18

hold–5438 phulake– guarding, or guard, a watching.  Figuratively of Babylon as the dwelling place, station, haunt of demons and unclean birds where they resort and hold their vigils or where they are kept in prison.

Bird––Webster's–Slang:  Bird is used in many combinations, phrases, proverbs, and figurative senses; based originally upon real or suposed habits or characteristics of birds.  Here it is used as a slang for a fellow, chap, or guy; as a queer bird.  Something to excite admiration=bird of a scheme.

Cormorant––they devour fish voraciously, therefore they are an emblem of gluttony and greedy or gluttonous person.  A voracious eater,
a avaricious (-ishus) greedy of gain, immoderately desirous of accumulating property, wealth or the like.

or rapacious (ra-pa-shus)––to seize and carry off, to snatch away.  Excessively grasping or covetous; given to seizing or extorting what is coveted; as rapacious invaders, rulers, usurers.  subsisting on prey; predaceous.

Bittern––subfamily of herons.  Frequenting bogs and reedy swamps, nesting on the ground and nocturnal in habits.  Notable for their soft streaked and speckled plumage and pecular booming sounds they utter.

Owl––prey, prowl about

Raven––The raven is omnivorous and somewhat predaceous, and was an object of veneration and superstition.  In captivity is intelligent and mischievous and sometimes learns to articulate words.
Veneration––to regard reverential respect to highest degree of respect and reverence, awe devotion

Satyr––8163 Saw-eer––devil, goat, hairy, kid, rough, satyr.  A masculine noun meaning a male goat, a buck.  Occasionally, the word can be used figuratively to mean a hairy one.  Under the Israelite sacrificial system, a male goat was an acceptable sin offering.  This noun is used many times in conjunction with the sin offering, in which a male goat without any defects was offered by the priest to atone for the sins of himself and the people (Lev. 9:15, 2 Ch. 29:23; Ez. 43:25).  On the negative side, the Israelites worshipped the goat as an idol in times of rebellion against God; the same noun is used in these references Le. 17:7, 2 Ch. 11:15

abundance 1411 dunamis specially miraculous power, ability, abundance.  might, mightily, strength, violence.   A spirit of strength, meaning manly vigor in opposition of a spirit of cowardice.

delicacies––4764 strenos–a straining, strenuousness, or strength i.e. luxury, voluptuousness––pleasure=sexual, full of  delight, or pleasure, esp. of the senses.  pertaining to inclining to, arising from sensuous gratification

deliciously 4763 to be luxurious, live deliciously, act with wantonness from abundance.  Wanton–Webster's–undisciplined, not susceptible to control.  Excessive merry or gay.  Unchaste, lewd, unlawful,lasciviousness, lecherous (lustful).  Marked by manifesting arrogance, reckless of justice, the rights or feelings of others.  Unrestrained

I sit as a queen...

V10, 17    standing afar––a great distance––off for the fear of her torment,
They will disassociate themselves from her when her trouble starts.

        fear-5401 phobos––to be put in fear; alarm or fright, be exceedingly afraid, terror
    saying, 'Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one     hour is thy judgment come

V11    And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her;
    for no man buys their merchandise any more

V12-14 merchandise are departed for you and you shall find them no     more

V15    merchants of these things which were made rich by her will stand afar         off for the fear
V16    saying

V17     for in one hour riches come to nought
    shipmaster and company stood afar off––disassociation

V18    and cried when they saw the smoke of her burning

V19    cast dust on their heads, weeping and wailing

V20    rejoice over her––heaven, holy apostles, and prophets
    for God has avenged you on her

V21    a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and cast it into     the sea
    saying, ' With violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down     and found no more at all.

V22    Voice of harper and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters,
    heard no more
    no craftsman
    sound of a millstone heard no more

V23    no light of a candle
    no voice of bridegroom and bride
        by your sorceries were all the nations deceived

V24    in her was found the blood of the prophets and of saints
