Psalms 1:4,5,6

Psalms Chapter one verses four, five and six:  "The ungodly are not so:  but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  For the Lord knows the way of the righteous:  but the way of the ungodly shall perish.  (KJV without the eths)

Chaff is the husk around the wheat kernel.  The wheat was put in a basket and shook to loosen the husk.  The wheat, then, was tossed into the air where the wind catches the husk and blows it away.  There is no stability in the lives of those who do not trust in the Lord, no victory or overcoming abilities that Christ offers us.  And that is a shame.  Because Jesus has done this for us and given His name and Word to overcome.   He said on the cross just before He died, "It is finished!"  His work was done.  What He did after that was being raised from the dead and He is now sitting on the right hand of the Father praying and making intercession for us.  He WANTS us to succeed!

As I was writing this the Lord showed me another meaning of verse 4.  As we go through this world, living our lives, working for the Lord in every area of life, the cares of it sometimes attach themselves to us.  We live in a broken world--a fallen world.  Some of these cares are the challenges, mistakes we face every day.  I think mostly they are memories of past hurts that plague us.  While we are in this life, to overcome these is to first repent, and then to get into praise and worship to the Lord.   This re-focuses our minds and hearts.  It stops the mouth of the enemy that keep these thoughts just rolling and rolling in our heads and puts us in tune with the Lord opening the channel to hear His voice.  But continuing on with what He showed me:  when the rapture happens and we are caught up all this chaff dust that has attached itself to us will blow away.  And we will no longer have to deal with our minds being plagued!!!   PRAISE the LORD!!!

The Jewish Bible says in verse 5, " For this reason (in verse 4) the wicked won't stand up to the judgment nor will sinners."  When it comes time for all of us to stand before the Lord, the wicked and sinners will be blown away like chaff.  They will have no defense.  But as true Christians, disciples of Jesus, Jesus is our defense.  We will be able to stand up to the judgment; not in our own selves, but because we have given our lives to Him and we are covered with His blood.  Proverbs 21:3 says, " To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice."  And verse 15, "It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity."

It is good and wonderful to know that the Lord knows us.  Nahum 1:7, "The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and he knows them that trust in Him."  Second Timothy 2:19, "Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, 'The Lord knows them that are His.  And let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.'"

Look to the Lord in all you do today and everyday.  He loves you so much!

Psalms 1:2-3

Psalms Chapter one verse 2:  "But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law does he meditate day and night."

This is a life changing verse here!  Need a change of life or life style?  There is a simple Way!  But in this Way our very being rebels against and that is what makes it seem hard.  But it is very simple.  The God says in Isaiah 55:8  "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord."  It doesn't make sense that this simple Way should be so life changing.  It can take the worst drug addict, or addict of any kind and make a totally different person out of him or her.  So what is this simple Way?

First of all you need to repent.  That means to turn around and go a different way--the opposite way of which you are going.  Turn your whole self to Jesus and let Him be Lord or Boss of your life.  Let Him show you what to do and say.  Rejecting the counsel or way or seat of the evil and choose the Lord's Counsel, Way and Seat.

Secondly, verse two here says to delight in the Law of the Lord.  To find absolute pleasure and value in His Word.  To incline to His Word.  Just like you would lean forward to listen to someone speak, especially when you are in a place where it is hard to hear.  Lean toward or incline to His Word.  Don't just read words on a page.  Read for content.  Ask, "Lord what do you want to teach me today?  This moment?"  Look to what He is saying.  Listen.

Thirdly, verse two says to meditate.  This isn't just vaguely thinking about what you are reading in God's Word.  It means to really ponder it, to imagine what you are reading.  Picture it in your mind.  Speak it, murmur it as your are imagining and picturing it.

This is where your life begins to change.  Because not only have you chosen to follow the Lord but you are beginning to change your mind about things.  Just for a person to say, "I am Born Again" or " I am a Christian" isn't enough.  We must get right down to the nitty gritty and change our thoughts.  WE MAKE  God's thoughts our thoughts.  It is by OUR choice that we read and meditate on God's Word and let Him speak to us.  God can't do it for us.  He sends His Holy Spirit to help us.  He (the Holy Spirit) in the Greek is called the Paraklete which means 'One called along side to help'.  WOW!!!  How wonderful is that!!  God IS for you; for us.  He is NOT our enemy.  The enemy is satan.  Satan is the one who kills, steals, and destroys.  God sent Jesus to give us abundant life.  But we have our part to do.  We can't say we are Christians and keep our lives business-as-usual and expect God to follow after us and keep us clean.  It doesn't work that way.  We need to be obedient.  We have an enemy--satan.  But as you read and study God's Word you will learn that Jesus defeated him and made us to overcome!!

Then we become what verse three says:  "And he will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bring forth his/her fruit in his season, his leaf also shall not wither; and what soever he does will prosper."

Do you know what a tree that is planted by rivers of waters is like?  This is what he is like:  Jeremiah 17:7-8  "Blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.  For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when the heat comes, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."

Your roots will go deep in God's Word and you will not be moved when hard times come.  You won't be swayed from the truth but will stand firm.  You will be steady  no matter what.  You won't fade away.  Your strength will be renewed.  You will never have a lack.

Trust in the Lord.  Give yourself to Him today.  He says "Taste and see that I am Good!"  Psalm 34:8

Psalms Chapter one verse one

The Lord has been laying on my heart to study the Psalms.  And just this morning He asked me to put this on my website for you to consider and learn.   I will be going verse by verse and will quite often, like today, will not get through the whole verse at once.  So this will be an on-going teaching and I will try to get up post every day.  I will definitely post the next time where I left off.  If you have any questions you may write me at the address in the "About Me" section.  I will do  my best to answer or find out the answer.

Psalms consist of 150 chapters Praises to the Lord.  That is what the word Psalms means:  Book of Praises.  Many of them are songs written by King David the second king the Lord placed over Israel.  They are quite often used to edify us to do what is right and to walk right before the Lord; to offer encouragement and comfort.  I encourage you to read the Psalms and the whole Bible for yourself and let the Lord speak to you.

Psalm 1: 1  Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.  (KJV with the 'eth's taken out)

The Jewish Bible says:  "How blessed are those who reject the advice of the wicked, don't stand on the way of sinners or sit where scoffers sit!"

Blessed is a word that means happy or a state of bliss.  It is always used of people and never used of God.  "This term is used to describe a person or nation who enjoys a relationship with God."*  This is what a person or nation experiences when obedient to God and His Word.  This is what a person or nation experiences when they reject the counsel and advice of the ungodly or wicked.

The word 'ungodly' just simply means a bad person, an enemy of the Lord.  Sometimes this is very blatant and other times it is very subtle.  So how do we know when someone is trying to give us bad counsel or advice?  Here are some things to consider:
Does the advice...
1)   teach us to walk with the Lord?
2)  encourage us to do and say what is right?
3)  make us question the Lord and His Word?  Remember Satan said to Eve, "Did the Lord say...."Gensis 3:1
4)   say something to the effect, " well it is just a little bit", or "just for a little while", or "it is just for fun, there is no harm in it" and anything else along these lines?
5)  cause pain of any kind to others either physically, spiritually, or emotionally?
6)  take things that don't belong to you or the person giving the counsel?

If the advice or counsel does any of these things (and there is probably more.  I will add to the list as they come to mind) then our ears should perk up and our feet take flight.  They may laugh at us--and it doesn't matter your age, a child, teen or an adult.  It is better to be laughed and talked about here than be ashamed before the Lord.

This verse also talks about 'sinners'.  "This word as a noun is used to describe those who by their actions are under the wrath and judgment of God and face ultimate destruction.  The influence of these people are to be avoided."*  Proverbs 4:14-15 says, "Enter NOT into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.  Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away."  Here is why, Proverbs 4:16 "For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall."  When bad advice is given.....RUN!!!  (I encourage you to take time to read all of Proverbs chapter 4.)

Their (sinners) WAY refers to the "pathway of one's life, suggesting the pattern of life."*  This means wicked life, ways of darkness."*  And to STAND in those ways are to "confirm those ways, or standfast (like taking root) in them, or even be employed by them.  It is a path they have chosen and we are to avoid this path.

The last part of verse on tells us not to sit in the seat of the scornful.  They are sitting which means they, again have chosen a way of life and this way like above is an evil way.  So what is scorn or scornful?  It is a person who mock, is contemptuous, ridicules another, laughs at another.  All this causes so much pain.  Have you ever been laughed at?  No doubt you have been.  I have and I know how painful it is.  King David and Job, as well as others, know how painful it is too.  In Job 16:20 he says of his FRIENDS,  "My friends scorn me, mine eye pour out tears unto God."  With friends like that who needs enemies, as the saying goes.  And David, he says in Psalms 119: 51, "The proud have me greatly in derision, yet have I not declined from Your law."  Derision means to 'make ridicule of or to mock, make sport of'.  Both of these men kept their eyes on the Lord, looking to Him for help.  They never turned away from the Lord.  The Bible says he/she who chooses an evil way of life will reap what he/she sow:  Proverbs 3:34  Surely (for sure, for certain) He scorns the scorners:  But He gives grace to the lowly (humble).

All of us have been object of someone's mocking and laughing, but we don't have to choose that way.  Galatians 6:7 states:  "Be not deceived:  God is not mocked:  For whatsoever a man (or woman) sows that shall he/she reap."  If we are going to reap what we sow or plant why not plant good things into other peoples lives.  Read God's Word daily, talk to Him and do good to others.  If you don't know Jesus as your Lord (Master) and Savior I encourage you to get to know Him now.  Time really is getting short for His return.  Give Him your life today and live for Him.

That is it for today.  I challenge you and encourage you to study God Word for yourself.  As you read listen to what He is saying.  Read daily.  God bless.
