PAM Number 2--August

The August PAM (placemat a month) will be posted shortly!  July got away from me and I got a bit behind.  So be watching!  It will be any day now!

I will be posting pictures of projects I have been working on too very soon.

All the Paths of the Lord are Mercy!

Good and upright is the Lord:  Therefore will He teach sinner in the way.

The meek will He guide in judgment, and the meek will He teach His way.

All the paths of the Lord are mercy and thruth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

For You Name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity, for it is great.

Psalm 25 : 8- 11

An Evening Prayer

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness:  You have enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

O you sons of men, how long will you turn my glory into shame?  How long will you love vanity, and seek after leasing (lying)  Selah.

But know that the Lord has set apart him that is godly for Himself:  The Lord will hear when I call unto Him.

Stand in awe, and sin not:  commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still.  Selah.

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

There be many that say,  "Who will show us any good?"    Lord, Lift up the light of my countenance upon us.

You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

I will both lay me down in peace and sleep:  For You, Lord, only makes me dwell in safety.

Psalm Chapter 4

The word Selah means to 'pause and think on that'.

Misery Sauce

Take 1 set of feelings (parboiled),
1 lb. envy,
1 lb. egotism,
1 qt. tears,
1 tsp. being misundertood,
2 qts. selfishness.

Mix the feelings as fine as possible; stir in the envy thoroughly, then add the egotism, which must be very strong, as much of the success of the sauce depends upon a woman's never thinking of any one but herself.  Put in the tears, drop by drop, to spread them out as much as possible, and mix in the flavor of misunderstanding, while things are hot.  Saturate the mixture thoroughly with selfishness, and set away in the mind to ferment.  Those who enjoy being unhappy, should always keep this in the house.  It can be applied like a salad dressing, to any kind of circumstances, and enough of it can be concocted at a moment's notice to last a month.

One thing about misery sauce is this:  That it will not keep in fresh air and sunshine.  Mrs. Jane L. Shaw (Kalamazoo, 1906)

Kite fly day!

We have two little Grandsons over one day a week and this particular week we flew quite a large kite.  Here it is!  No fear of the wires though---not yet!
Uh-oh!  Taking a dive!  WATCH-OUT for the wires!!
It was a beautiful day!  Just perfect for kite flying!
Back up in the air!
Look at the gorgeous sky!!  Thank you Lord for a grand day!!
Here are the kite fliers!
OH NO!!  Not the kite eating tree!!!
YIKES!!
Grandpa is working on it!
The guys are winding up the string as Grandpa gets the kite out of the tree.
In the mean-time a helicopter goes over.
Grandpa gets the kite out of the tree and the four of us goes over to the church yard.  Acres for a free-flying kite.  But Grandpa lets the string out for "miles!" and it gets caught in the trees and there the Kites gets eaten!!  And is consumed there still!
Here are some flowers from our yard.
 Some are very tiny.
 Tea roses.
Baby mourning dove.

God IS Good and His mercy endures FOREVER!

O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good for His mercy endures forever.  And say, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to Your holy name and glory in Your praise.  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for ever and ever.  And all the people said, Amen, and praised the Lord.  1 Chronicles 16: 34-36

It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice and with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying, "For He is good; for His mercy endures for ever:  that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; so that the priest could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.  2 Chronicles 5:13-14

And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshiped, and praised the Lord, saying,  For He is good, for His mercy endures forever.   2 Chronicles 7:3

And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because He is good for His mercy endures for ever toward Israel.  And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.  Ezra 3:11

Praise the Lord, O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endures forever. Psalm 106:1

O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good for His mercy endures forever.  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;  Psalm 107: 1-2

O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good, because His mercy endures forever.  Let Israel now say that His mercy endures forever.  Let the house of Aaron now say, that His mercy endures forever.  Let them now that fear the Lord say, that His mercy endures forever.  Psalm 118:1-4

O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good, for His mercy endures forever.
O give thanks unto the God of gods for His mercy endures forever.
O give thanks to the Lord of lords for His mercy endures for ever.
To Him Who alone does great wonders for His mercy endures for ever.
To Him that by wisdom made the heavens:  for His mercy endures forever.
To Him that stretched out the earth above the waters; for His mercy endures for ever.
To Him that made great lights; for His mercy endures for ever:
The sun to rule by day: for His mercy endures forever:
The moon and the stars to rule by night: for His mercy endures forever.
To Him that smote Egypt in the firstborn for His mercy endures forever:
And brought out Israel from among them: for His mercy endures forever:
With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for His meercy endures forever.
To Him which divided the Red Sea into parts: for His mercy endures for ever:
And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for His mercy endures for ever:
But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea: for His mercy endures for ever.
To Him which led His people through the wilderness: for His mercy endures for ever.
To Him which smote great kings: for His mercy endures forever.
And slew famous kings:  for His mercy endures forever:
Sihon king of the Amorites:  for His mercy endures forever:
And Og the king of Bashan:  for His mercy endures forever:
And gave their land for and heritage:  for His mercy endures forever.
Who remembered us in our low estate:  for His mercy endures forever:
And hath redeemed us from our enemies:  for His mercy endures forever.
Who gives food to all flesh:  for His mercy endures forever.
O give thanks unto the God of Heaven:  for His mercy endures forever.  Psalm 136

The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good; for His mercy endures for ever and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord.  For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the Lord.  Jeremiah 33: 11

How to sew 6 to 8 points together and have a flat center.

Ever sewn a lot of points together for the Le Moyne Star quilt block or even a hat like this one I am making for my granddaughters and had the centers left with a huge, hard lump?  Well there is a remedy for that and it really is easy to take care of once you know how to do it.  This is a step by step lesson to show you how to bring a lot of points together and have the center absolutely flat!

Once you cut the number of pieces you need take two of them and place them with right sides together.  Insert a pin so it is right down the cent from the point down.  You will need a long pin.

Now you will sew your quarter inch seam allowance from the bottom of the piece up to the point.  Be sure to follow the quarter inch all the way to the pin.

Stop right where the quarter inch is on the pin.

Don't sew on the pin--hand turn the wheel until the needle is on top and pull the pin out, put the needle down and reverse stitch for 2 stitches.

I replaced the pin to help you  see where the stitching stops at the point.
Now open the two pieces and take your third piece place it right sides together with the second piece.

Line up the two pieces.  Insert your pin from the second piece to the third
right at the stopping place at the point.  Make sure the first seams are out of the way.
Follow the same directions for the first seam, making sure you follow the quarter of an inch all the way up.  You will follow these directions for all 6 or 8 pieces.  When sewing piece 1 and piece 6 (8) together repeat directions for the first seam.  Make sure with each seam you keep all previous seams out of the way.

Here are all seams come together.  Now press them with a hot iron.  All the seams will be pressed in the same direction.

When you are done with that.  Arrange the center so the points go in a circle and press.

Now you have a pretty little "flower" in the center and your Le Moyne Star or hat will lie flat.   If you happen to have a hole in the middle just go back and sew a couple more stitches in some of the seams to make it tighter.  You should not have the hole.

Some times it is frustrating to try to get this just right.  I hope this has been a help to some of you.  If you have any questions please feel free to write me.  God bless.
